Drvenik Veli & Drvenik Mali
Two islands, forty residents between them, and the Blue Lagoon in the channel
The two Drvenik islands lie west of Trogir, between Čiovo and Šolta. Drvenik Veli is the larger and the one with the famous Blue Lagoon in the channel beside it; Drvenik Mali is smaller, emptier and has one of the clearest bays in this part of the Adriatic. Together they have a few dozen year-round residents. Almost every boat tour from Trogir passes at least one of them.
The Blue Lagoon
The lagoon everybody comes for sits in the shallow channel between Drvenik Veli and the islet of Krknjaši. The bottom is white sand, the water rarely goes over three metres, and the colour is the reason the photos look edited. Drvenik Veli
The village sits in a deep bay on the north side, with a church, a couple of konobas and a ferry link to Trogir a few times a week. Walk fifteen minutes over the ridge and you are at Krknjaši bay looking down on the lagoon. In summer perhaps a hundred people live here.
Drvenik Mali
Smaller, drier and quieter still — a single settlement, a lighthouse and a coastline of empty coves. Vela Rina on the south side is the one worth the detour, and it is one of the stops you can choose on the Sun, Swim & Mojitos charter. There is no shop and no restaurant to rely on, which is exactly why it stays empty.
Getting there
A local ferry runs from Trogir to Drvenik Veli and Drvenik Mali on a sparse schedule aimed at residents, not day-trippers — check it carefully before relying on it. Coming by tour boat from Trogir takes about 30 minutes to the lagoon. If you are staying in Split, Trogir is roughly half an hour up the coast; see boat tours from Split.
