Maslinica is a small harbour on the western tip of Šolta, and it is the stop most guests end up talking about on the way home. Four of our trips call there. How long you actually get ashore is the part worth knowing before you pick one, because it ranges from a little over an hour to a slow ninety minutes, and the village is small enough that the difference changes what you can do with it.

Šolta sits directly opposite Trogir and gets a fraction of the boat traffic that Hvar and Brač see. There are no resorts and no cruise terminal, which is most of the reason people are surprised by it.

What is actually in the village

A row of stone houses along the water, a castle that is now a hotel, and the Šešula bay just around the corner. That is close to the whole of it, and it is the point. There is a beach bar with its own beach about two minutes from where we tie up, which is where a good share of the boat ends up.

You can walk the waterfront end to end in ten minutes. The small stone streets behind it take another ten if you wander. So on the Three Island Tour you have seen the village inside twenty minutes and still have over an hour, which is why the stop works: the time is for coffee, a swim, or doing nothing in particular, not for getting round a list.

Getting to Maslinica

By boat from Trogir it is about 40 minutes. There is no ferry from Trogir to Šolta at all, so coming by boat with us is the direct route. The car ferry that does exist runs from Split to Rogač, on the other end of the island from Maslinica, which is a longer day than most people expect when they look at the map.

The rest of Šolta, if you get the chance

The north coast facing Trogir is a run of small bays: Šešula, Nečujam, and Stomorska at the east end. Solinska is a shallow, sandy-bottomed bay that turns pale turquoise in the afternoon, and it is one of the stops you can choose on the Sun, Swim & Mojitos charter. Because so few boats come this way you can still find a bay to yourself in August.
